Dr. Melanie Walsh serves as a Research Associate on the project. With her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, she brings with her a background in mental health, prevention efforts, public health initiatives, and program evaluation. Her past experiences include evaluation research, content analysis, social network analysis, and causal modeling as well as identifying and specifying abstract theoretical constructs via factor analysis. Melanie’s most recent research project involved leading a statewide comprehensive needs assessment of LGBTQ Mississippians. This project included both qualitative and quantitative components and is being used to inform policy and interventions across the state of Mississippi.
Research Interest
Melanie's research interests include:

Community-driven public health initiatives;
Prevention efforts using community education and intervention;
Social network analysis;
Social support as a protective factors;
Issues related to sexuality, gender, and race;
Melanie enjoys outdoors fun including hiking, biking, & Kayaking.
Melanie also enjoys spending time in the yard tending to her garden and plants.
Finally, Melanie has an alter ego in world of roller derby; she plays with a local team, the Mississippi Brawl Starts located in Columbus, Mississippi.
